We are delighted to announce an exciting addition to the therapies we offer here at Cryozone Health, with the installation of our new infrared sauna.
Increasingly popular in the health and wellness industry, the main difference between an infrared sauna and a traditional sauna is how they use heat. Infrared saunas use advanced therapy to heat the user directly, with only a small percentage of the heat heating the air, this results in a deeper sweat and a much more comfortable ambient air temperature than a traditional single heater sauna.
The radiant heat from our infrared sauna surrounds you and penetrates deeply into your joints, muscles and tissues, increasing oxygen flow and circulation. As a result, there is an array of amazing infrared sauna health benefits, all of which happen while you sit back and relax in comfort:
Weight loss and increased metabolism
An infrared sauna session heats your body directly, raising your core temperature as you absorb the infrared heat. As you relax, your body is hard at work producing sweat, pumping blood and burning calories, boosting your cardiovascular, lymphatic and immune systems and creating a fat-based sweat to help your body detox.
As your body increases sweat production to cool itself, your heart works harder to boost circulation, increasing your metabolism and therefore burning more calories. In fact, regular use of a sauna imparts a similar boost on the cardiovascular system as running.
Muscle pain relief
Muscles relax best when the tissues are warm, for greater flexibility and range of motion. The infrared heat relieves muscle tension and increases blood circulation, which carries away metabolic waste products and delivers oxygen-rich blood to oxygen-depleted muscle, allowing muscles to recover faster.
The deep heat of infrared saunas helps peripheral blood vessels to dilate, bringing relief and healing to muscle and soft tissue injuries. Infrared heat also reduces soreness on nerve endings and muscle spasms as muscle joints and fibers are heated.
Immune system boost
When we are dealing with excess stress, lack of exercise, malnutrition or a lack of sleep, our immune system may not be working to its optimal capabilities. The use of an infrared sauna can support the immune system, providing help with sleep, stress and detoxification.
The deep heating from our sauna will raise your core body temperature, inducing an artificial fever. Fever is the body’s natural mechanism to strengthen and accelerate the immune response, as seen in the case of infection. This enhanced immune system, combined with improved elimination of toxins and wastes via intense sweating, increases your overall health and resistance to disease.
One of the biggest infrared sauna health benefits is its ability to increase your blood circulation and stimulate the sweat glands, releasing built-up toxins in the body.
Regular use of the infrared sauna can help your body detoxify as it rids itself of accumulated highly toxic metals (lead, mercury, nickel and cadmium) as well as alcohol, nicotine, sulphuric acid and other organic and inorganic compounds.
Improves appearance of cellulite
Cellulite refers to uneven dimpling or “orange peel” skin commonly found on the buttocks, thighs and abdomen. Caused by superficial pockets of trapped fat, it appears in 90% of post-adolescent women and is rarely seen in men. Cellulite is not related to obesity, and the appearance of cellulite is not always reduced by weight loss.
The heat of the infrared sauna warms three times as deeply as conventional saunas, increasing heart rate and localised blood circulation. This increase in metabolic rate reduces the accumulation of liquids and toxins in the fat cells to reduce the appearance of cellulite.
Ease joint pain and stiffness
Infrared sauna use benefits patients suffering from many forms of arthritis, sprains, neuralgia, bursitis, muscle spasms, joint stiffness and many other musculoskeletal ailments. As well as this, much of the stiffness, aches and soreness that come with aging are reduced or eliminated.
The infrared wave penetrates 1.5” to 2” into the body, stimulating a relaxation response and allowing the muscles and tendons to release tension. The core body temperature is raised, creating a “false fever” which causes the immune system to start making more white blood cells. This results in a reduction in swelling and inflammation, two major factors in easing chronic pain. Capillaries and arteries also dilate and increase the flow of oxygen rich blood to areas of tension, relieving muscles and reducing pain.
Studies have shown that infrared saunas gave significant relief for patients with chronic pain (such as rheumatoid arthritis). Four weeks of 30-minute, twice-weekly sessions in an infrared sauna resulted in a 40 percent improvement in pain and stiffness in one such study. Another study showed that patients with chronic pain saw their pain levels drop by nearly 70% after their first session of infrared sauna therapy. Pain scores remained low throughout the observation period.
Stress and fatigue reduction
After just a few minutes, the gentle warmth of our infrared sauna will help you feel relaxed and rejuvenated, releasing any tension and stress. The saunas have been shown to affect the autonomic nervous system, putting you in the parasympathetic (rest and digest) state, allowing your body to heal.
Skin’s tone, elasticity and texture is improved with the use of our infrared sauna, with the increased blood circulation and sweating. The sweating induced by the infrared carries away deeply embedded impurities and dead skin cells, leaving the skin clean and glowing. Acne, eczema, psoriasis, burns, lesions and cuts have all been shown to improve after use.
With all of these incredible benefits, our customers are already loving their sessions in the sauna on these colder winter days, so come along and give it a go.
